PS 150

Welcome to our COVID-19 response page.  Below you will find all the critical information about how PS 150 is changing the way we operate to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection.

We are doing everything we can to make sure staff, students, and families are safe.

Please check back regularly, as we will update the information here as conditions change.

The New York City Department of Education also has important information and resources for you.

All students will attend school 5 days each week.  There is no remote learning option.  Parents seeking remote learning should consider transferring their child(ren) to home schooling.

We are starting school with a staggered arrival and dismissal schedule.  This allows us to limit the number of students entering and leaving our building at any one time and to maintain safe social distancing.

Please maintain social distancing between families during arrival and dismissal.

Kindergarten through fifth grade students can arrive beginning at 8:15 am.  We will greet your children at street level and your child will show us  his/her Health Screening Confirmation page (if completed online) or the completed questionnaire (a hard copy).   Children will be lined up single file with their grown-up next to them in front of the staff person checking the Health Screening.

Once your child is cleared for entry, you may escort your child to the plaza level where we ask that you say good-bye to your child and leave.

PreKindergarten parents will escort their children up to the plaza to a spot west of PS 150 to meet their teacher at 8:40 am.  Parents will show us their child’s Health Screening Confirmation Page (if completed online) or the completed questionnaire (a hard copy).

We will meet children arriving by school bus and escort them to their designated arrival spot.  Your child will show a hard copy of his/her Health Screening Questionnaire to the staff member meeting the bus.

Children are expected to arrive on time every day.  If your child arrives after the class has gone upstairs but before every class has gone upstairs, you and your child will wait at street level until a staff member is available to check his/her Health Screening Quesionnaire.

We will dismiss K-5 children from the plaza at either the intersection of Greenwich and Jay Streets ,or at the Harrison Street private road.  Adults will wait for their children at the bottom of the designated staircase.

We will dismiss PreK children from the plaza west of the Harrison Street staircase where you or another designated adult will be waiting.  We will dismiss students with siblings in PreK to the PreK dismissal spot, if the teacher sees you waiting there.

We will dismiss children enrolled in Manhattan Youth’s afterschool program to MY counselors.

We will place children who ride the school bus home from school on the bus.

We have put safety procedures in place to keep our students and staff healthy.

All adults (staff and visitors) and students must wear masks at all times (except when eating and during scheduled mask breaks).

Students and staff are expected to wash hands thoroughly before and after eating, after using the bathroom, if exposed to body fluids (like saliva or a sneeze) and at other times necessary throughout the day.

We will follow NYC Department of Education guidelines of 3 feet social distancing in the classroom, wherever possible, and three feet social distancing at lunch.

We will test randomly selected students and staff biweekly for the Covid-19 virus.  Before we test your child, we will need your consent.  You can fill out the testing consent form in your NYC Schools Account or download a printable version.

We are limiting visitors to the school during this time.  In-school parent and community volunteering has been suspended until further notice.  Most parent-teacher conferences and other meetings will be held virtually.  All visits are by appointment.

In addition to asking everyone to wear masks, wash hands and maintain social distancing, our school has taken several steps to improve the safety of our staff and students.  These steps have been recommended by local health authorities to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 and other illnesses.

With the exception of arrival and dismissal, we have designated the western staircase of our building as the up staircase and the eastern staircase as the down staircase.

All windows will be open. Each classroom will be equipped with two air purifiers.

We will not share supplies.  School supply lists were included in each teacher’s summer letter.  If you did not receive a supply list from your child’s teacher, please email Laura Cohen at  Children will be allowed to store their supplies in the classroom.

Children may bring lunch, a water bottle, approved medication (epi-pen, nebulizer, etc. if not with nurse and if child is authorized to self-administer) and outer clothing as dictated by the weather.  Children may bring a second bag or backpack with clothing/equipment for after school activities.  Children will drop the bag off in the office in the morning and pick it up at dismissal.

We will not accept any packages for children during the school day.  If a child forgets his/her lunch, we will provide a school lunch.

All lavatories are gender neutral.  We have installed touchless paper towel dispensers in each lavatory.  We have assigned each class a lavatory for their exclusive use and only one child will be permitted to use the lavatory at any given time.

Our custodial team is committed to cleaning all classrooms daily, with a deep cleaning every evening.  In addition, all teachers are equipped with sanitizing wipes to wipe down surfaces on an as-needed basis throughout the school day.

We will serve “grab and go” breakfast from 8:15 to 8:30 am each morning. A hot lunch will be available on most days, as well as a daily cold lunch option.   Students may bring their own lunch if they wish.  We are still a nut-aware school and remind you that your child’s lunch cannot include any nut products.

Students will eat breakfast and lunch outdoors or in the classroom.  We will try to eat outdoors, as often as possible.  Students will not be permitted to share food or beverages.

The DOE is committed to providing technical support to students while working from home.
